4605 5603 d 13 h decky /branches/snapshot/ add task snapshoting branch
4490 5632 d 7 h decky /trunk/kernel/ remove redundant index_t and count_t types (which were always quite ambiguous and not actually needed)
4174 5704 d 0 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ add malloc slab caches for up to 4 MB blocks
3973 5728 d 15 h decky /trunk/kernel/ kernel memory management revisited (phase 2): map physical memory according to zones
- ia32: register reserved and ACPI zones
- pareas are now used only for mapping of present physical memory (hw_area() is gone)
- firmware zones and physical addresses outside any zones are allowed to be mapped generally
- fix nasty antient bug in zones_insert_zone()

3972 5729 d 3 h decky /trunk/kernel/ kernel memory management revisited (phase 1): proper support for zone flags
- the zone_t structures are now statically allocated to be easily available
- the locking scheme was simplified
- new flags for non-available zones were introduced
- FRAME_LOW_4_GiB flag is removed, the functionality will be eventually reimplemented using a generic mechanism

3940 5735 d 10 h decky /trunk/kernel/ make hw_area API more generic
this allows mapping of EGA VRAM on ia32/amd64

3908 5739 d 8 h decky /trunk/ overhaul pareas: use one single physical area for the physical address space not belonging to physical memory
3240 5939 d 16 h decky / move unfinished ObjC support to a separate branch
3233 5943 d 12 h decky /trunk/ remove dummy page coloring facility, which is currenty not used
3222 5962 d 11 h svoboda /trunk/ Merge program-loader related stuff from dynload branch to trunk. (huge)
3208 5964 d 7 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ The real intention of the previous commit was to put the boundary
on 4 GiB, not 16 GiB.

3207 5964 d 7 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Introduce FRAME_LOW_16_GiB slab/frame allocator flag. When specified, the
allocators will not allocate memory above 16 GiB. Each architecture needs to
make sure not to merge zones from below and above 16 GiB. Allocations that
require memory below 16 GiB need to be altered to use this flag.

3206 5964 d 9 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Avoid deadlock during the 'zone n' kconsole command. Buddy allocator detail is
no longer printed because the effort to avoid the deadlock was simply not worth
it.

3182 5978 d 12 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/include/mm/ cstyle for slab.h
2745 6094 d 15 h decky /trunk/ code cleanup (mostly signed/unsigned)
allow extra compiler warnings

2725 6115 d 13 h decky /trunk/kernel/ remove config.memory_size, get_memory_size() and memory_init.{c|d}
the amount of available memory can be calculated from the sizes of the zones
add FRAMES2SIZE, SIZE2KB and SIZE2MB functions/macros (code readability)

2556 6245 d 16 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Rename as_get_size() to as_area_get_size() and add a doxygen comment.
2465 6358 d 12 h jermar /trunk/ Merge arm32 into trunk.
2444 6366 d 4 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ First fixes for suncc support.
It is going to be a long way...

2183 6422 d 11 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Continue to de-oversynchronize the kernel.
- replace as->refcount with an atomic counter; accesses to this
reference counter are not to be done when the as->lock mutex is held;
this gets us rid of mutex_lock_active();

Remove the possibility of a deadlock between TLB shootdown and asidlock.
- get rid of mutex_lock_active() on as->lock
- when locking the asidlock spinlock, always do it conditionally and with
preemption disabled; in the unsuccessful case, enable interrupts and try again
- there should be no deadlock between TLB shootdown and the as->lock mutexes
- PLEASE REVIEW !!!

Add DEADLOCK_PROBE's to places where we have spinlock_trylock() loops.

2170 6427 d 5 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Simplify synchronization in as_switch().
The function was oversynchronized, which
was causing deadlocks on the address
space mutex.

Now, address spaces can only be switched
when the asidlock is held. This also protects
stealing of ASIDs. No other synchronization
is necessary.

2142 6430 d 12 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/include/mm/ Remove out of date comment.
2126 6475 d 4 h decky /trunk/kernel/ small cleanup, more work coming
2125 6475 d 7 h decky /trunk/ experimental support for Objective C
(disabled by default)

2124 6475 d 9 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ implement simple realloc()
2122 6481 d 11 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ explicit typecast, fix signed/unsigned comparison
2107 6483 d 6 h jermar /trunk/ When clock() is called by an external interrupt dispatched by the IRQ dispatcher,
no spinlock can be held or the kernel will not be preemptive. This fixes Ticket #24.

Formating and indentation fixes.

2106 6483 d 14 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Merge as_t structure into one and leave the differring parts in as_genarch_t.

Indentation and formatting changes in header files.

2094 6488 d 10 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ avoid conflict with potential keyword
2093 6488 d 10 h decky /trunk/kernel/ spinlock extern declaration macro
2089 6489 d 14 h decky /trunk/ huge type system cleanup
remove cyclical type dependencies across multiple header files
many minor coding style fixes

2085 6495 d 12 h decky /trunk/kernel/ typedef elimination
2083 6495 d 13 h decky /trunk/kernel/ typedef elimination
2071 6500 d 6 h jermar /trunk/ (c) versus (C)
2059 6523 d 15 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Improve indentation and formatting.
2015 6539 d 7 h jermar /trunk/ Rework support for virtually indexed cache.
Instead of repeatedly flushing the data cache, which was a huge overkill, refuse to create an illegal address alias
in the kernel (again) and allocate appropriate page color in userspace instead. Extend the detection also to
SYS_PHYSMEM_MAP syscall.

Add support for tracking physical memory areas mappable by SYS_PHYSMEM_MAP.

Lots of coding style changes.

2009 6544 d 6 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Initial support for handling illegal virtual aliases on sparc64.
2007 6547 d 5 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Introduce page colors. So far, only sparc64 uses correct page color bits. Other architectures have a dummy define
specifying zero bits for a page color.

There is a new check of page color in as_area_share(). Because of lack of support for this in the userspace, the
check has been #ifef'ed out.

2001 6550 d 4 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Indentation and comment fixes.
2000 6550 d 16 h decky /trunk/kernel/ move files to more proper locations
