4537 5629 d 15 h trochtova /branches/dd/ dd branch synchronized with trunk (revision 4536)
4055 5728 d 12 h trochtova /branches/dd/ changes in trunk (rev 4054) merged into dd branch
3022 6011 d 14 h decky /branches/dd/ device drivers branch
2745 6103 d 13 h decky /trunk/ code cleanup (mostly signed/unsigned)
allow extra compiler warnings

2647 6176 d 6 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/src/mm/ Fix a bug in anonymous address space area sharing. Call the backend's share
function only if the source area is not already shared. Otherwise increment the
sh_info refcount. Without this fix, the kernel will try to recreate the pagemap
if three and more address space areas attempt to share the same data.

2556 6254 d 14 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Rename as_get_size() to as_area_get_size() and add a doxygen comment.
2183 6431 d 9 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Continue to de-oversynchronize the kernel.
- replace as->refcount with an atomic counter; accesses to this
reference counter are not to be done when the as->lock mutex is held;
this gets us rid of mutex_lock_active();

Remove the possibility of a deadlock between TLB shootdown and asidlock.
- get rid of mutex_lock_active() on as->lock
- when locking the asidlock spinlock, always do it conditionally and with
preemption disabled; in the unsuccessful case, enable interrupts and try again
- there should be no deadlock between TLB shootdown and the as->lock mutexes
- PLEASE REVIEW !!!

Add DEADLOCK_PROBE's to places where we have spinlock_trylock() loops.

2170 6436 d 2 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Simplify synchronization in as_switch().
The function was oversynchronized, which
was causing deadlocks on the address
space mutex.

Now, address spaces can only be switched
when the asidlock is held. This also protects
stealing of ASIDs. No other synchronization
is necessary.

2141 6440 d 1 h jermar /trunk/ The Ultimate Solution To Illegal Virtual Aliases.
It is better to avoid them completely than to fight them.
Switch the sparc64 port to 16K pages. The TLBs and TSBs
continue to operate with 8K pages only. Page tables and
other generic parts operate with 16K pages.

Because the MMU doesn't support 16K directly, each 16K
page is emulated by a pair of 8K pages. With 16K pages,
illegal aliases cannot be created in 16K D-cache.

2133 6441 d 6 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/src/mm/ Coding style and indentation fixes.
2126 6484 d 2 h decky /trunk/kernel/ small cleanup, more work coming
2125 6484 d 5 h decky /trunk/ experimental support for Objective C
(disabled by default)

2106 6492 d 11 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Merge as_t structure into one and leave the differring parts in as_genarch_t.

Indentation and formatting changes in header files.

2094 6497 d 7 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ avoid conflict with potential keyword
2089 6498 d 11 h decky /trunk/ huge type system cleanup
remove cyclical type dependencies across multiple header files
many minor coding style fixes

2087 6499 d 7 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Indentaion and formatting changes even Martin will like :-)
2071 6509 d 4 h jermar /trunk/ (c) versus (C)
2069 6511 d 3 h jermar /trunk/ Improve formatting.
2015 6548 d 4 h jermar /trunk/ Rework support for virtually indexed cache.
Instead of repeatedly flushing the data cache, which was a huge overkill, refuse to create an illegal address alias
in the kernel (again) and allocate appropriate page color in userspace instead. Extend the detection also to
SYS_PHYSMEM_MAP syscall.

Add support for tracking physical memory areas mappable by SYS_PHYSMEM_MAP.

Lots of coding style changes.

2009 6553 d 4 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Initial support for handling illegal virtual aliases on sparc64.
2007 6556 d 3 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Introduce page colors. So far, only sparc64 uses correct page color bits. Other architectures have a dummy define
specifying zero bits for a page color.

There is a new check of page color in as_area_share(). Because of lack of support for this in the userspace, the
check has been #ifef'ed out.

1954 6592 d 3 h jermar /trunk/ Minor changes. Some coding style fixes and also a type (tee vs. tree).
One AS -> as change.

1915 6610 d 5 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ A quote from from SPARC V9 specification:

The Y register is deprecated; it is provided only for compatibility with previous versions
of the architecture. It should not be used in new SPARC-V9 software. It is
recommended that all instructions that reference the Y register (i.e., SMUL,
SMULcc, UMUL, UMULcc, MULScc, SDIV, SDIVcc, UDIV, UDIVcc, RDY, and
WRY) be avoided. See the appropriate pages in Appendix A, “Instruction Definitions,”
for suitable substitute instructions.

Still gcc is generating code which uses Y and some of the instructions above.
This change modifies the preemptible_handler() to preserve the Y register
across preemption.

1914 6610 d 10 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Add function for printing out info about address space.
1891 6630 d 3 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ sparc64 work:
- Experimental support for TSB (Translation Storage Buffer).

1890 6630 d 13 h jermar /trunk/ - Create a dedicated slab cache for as_t objects and switch from malloc/free to slab_alloc/slab_free for
them.

- Slightly fix and improve both the kernel and userspace atomic_add() on sparc64.

- More TSB work on the sparc64 front.

1889 6631 d 5 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Fix bug in mm/as.c:
- as_area_destroy() should not work with AS but as

sparc64 work:
- start implementing TSB support

1851 6658 d 11 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ sparc64 work.
Define the istate structure.
Move the identity-mapping handler to assembly.
Make the preemptible handler more general so that TL=1 MMU exceptions can make use of it.

Little bit of formatting and indentation.

1793 6696 d 13 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Change hw_map() on sparc64 to use virtual addresses that are
beyond the end of physical memory. It is beneficial in two
ways: first, physical memory is no longer being wasted by
otherwise necessary calls to frame_alloc() and, second,
virtual addresses for devices are now correctly allocated
and do not overlap with the 4M TLB-locked mapping for
kernel text and data.

1787 6699 d 6 h decky / move kernel/trunk, uspace/trunk and boot/trunk to trunk/kernel, trunk/uspace and trunk/boot
1780 6706 d 7 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Replace old __u?? types with respective C99 variants (e.g. uint32_t, int64_t, uintptr_t etc.).
1760 6717 d 9 h palkovsky /kernel/trunk/ Changed interface of frame_alloc/free to use address of frame instead of the pfn.
This makes it impossible to use >4GB of memory on 32-bit machines, but who cares...

1757 6720 d 12 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Cleanup of comments.
1735 6722 d 14 h decky /kernel/trunk/ make kernel prints case consistent
1705 6726 d 13 h cejka /kernel/trunk/ Added file with modules definitions and descriptions.
We are able to change modules order and their description in one place.

1702 6727 d 10 h cejka /kernel/trunk/ Kernel doxygen comments updated.
1594 6735 d 0 h jermar /kernel/trunk/generic/src/mm/ Never ever walk a B+tree as you destroy it. Or vice versa.
1587 6735 d 7 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ task_destroy() implementation, fixes in as_destroy() and task_kill().
This is the first version of HelenOS that would perform complete cleanup leading from thread to destruction of address space.

1544 6737 d 11 h palkovsky /kernel/trunk/generic/ Slightly better behaviour with caching on memory sharing.
1495 6739 d 0 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Remove three infinite loops introduced yesterday :-)

Make ia64 ready to load 5 ELF images.
