4537 5627 d 7 h trochtova /branches/dd/ dd branch synchronized with trunk (revision 4536)
4055 5726 d 3 h trochtova /branches/dd/ changes in trunk (rev 4054) merged into dd branch
3022 6009 d 5 h decky /branches/dd/ device drivers branch
2745 6101 d 5 h decky /trunk/ code cleanup (mostly signed/unsigned)
allow extra compiler warnings

2556 6252 d 6 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Rename as_get_size() to as_area_get_size() and add a doxygen comment.
2183 6429 d 0 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Continue to de-oversynchronize the kernel.
- replace as->refcount with an atomic counter; accesses to this
reference counter are not to be done when the as->lock mutex is held;
this gets us rid of mutex_lock_active();

Remove the possibility of a deadlock between TLB shootdown and asidlock.
- get rid of mutex_lock_active() on as->lock
- when locking the asidlock spinlock, always do it conditionally and with
preemption disabled; in the unsuccessful case, enable interrupts and try again
- there should be no deadlock between TLB shootdown and the as->lock mutexes
- PLEASE REVIEW !!!

Add DEADLOCK_PROBE's to places where we have spinlock_trylock() loops.

2170 6433 d 18 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Simplify synchronization in as_switch().
The function was oversynchronized, which
was causing deadlocks on the address
space mutex.

Now, address spaces can only be switched
when the asidlock is held. This also protects
stealing of ASIDs. No other synchronization
is necessary.

2142 6437 d 1 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/include/mm/ Remove out of date comment.
2126 6481 d 18 h decky /trunk/kernel/ small cleanup, more work coming
2125 6481 d 20 h decky /trunk/ experimental support for Objective C
(disabled by default)

2107 6489 d 19 h jermar /trunk/ When clock() is called by an external interrupt dispatched by the IRQ dispatcher,
no spinlock can be held or the kernel will not be preemptive. This fixes Ticket #24.

Formating and indentation fixes.

2106 6490 d 3 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Merge as_t structure into one and leave the differring parts in as_genarch_t.

Indentation and formatting changes in header files.

2094 6494 d 23 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ avoid conflict with potential keyword
2093 6494 d 23 h decky /trunk/kernel/ spinlock extern declaration macro
2089 6496 d 3 h decky /trunk/ huge type system cleanup
remove cyclical type dependencies across multiple header files
many minor coding style fixes

2071 6506 d 20 h jermar /trunk/ (c) versus (C)
2015 6545 d 20 h jermar /trunk/ Rework support for virtually indexed cache.
Instead of repeatedly flushing the data cache, which was a huge overkill, refuse to create an illegal address alias
in the kernel (again) and allocate appropriate page color in userspace instead. Extend the detection also to
SYS_PHYSMEM_MAP syscall.

Add support for tracking physical memory areas mappable by SYS_PHYSMEM_MAP.

Lots of coding style changes.

2009 6550 d 19 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Initial support for handling illegal virtual aliases on sparc64.
2000 6557 d 5 h decky /trunk/kernel/ move files to more proper locations
1914 6608 d 2 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Add function for printing out info about address space.
1891 6627 d 18 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ sparc64 work:
- Experimental support for TSB (Translation Storage Buffer).

1890 6628 d 5 h jermar /trunk/ - Create a dedicated slab cache for as_t objects and switch from malloc/free to slab_alloc/slab_free for
them.

- Slightly fix and improve both the kernel and userspace atomic_add() on sparc64.

- More TSB work on the sparc64 front.

1889 6628 d 20 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Fix bug in mm/as.c:
- as_area_destroy() should not work with AS but as

sparc64 work:
- start implementing TSB support

1888 6631 d 23 h jermar /trunk/ C99 compliant header guards (hopefully) everywhere in the kernel.
Formatting and indentation changes.
Small improvements in sparc64.

1868 6641 d 2 h jermar /trunk/ sparc64 work.
- the syscall wrapper needs to use the "memory"
clobber specifier to prevent over-optimization.
- on sparc64, the user address space spans the whole
64-bit space and therefore the macro
USER_ADDRESS_SPACE_SIZE_ARCH, as it was defined,
overflows to 0
- stop using USER_ADDRESS_SPACE_SIZE_ARCH and define
MAX_HEAP_SIZE instead
- in our situation when kernel and user address spaces
are separate, the G (global) bit cannot be used
(there is no point in it anymore)
- add the DEBUG() macro to stdio.h; DEBUG() uses
SYS_IO and is a good debugging tool for getting
early userspace to work

1851 6656 d 3 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ sparc64 work.
Define the istate structure.
Move the identity-mapping handler to assembly.
Make the preemptible handler more general so that TL=1 MMU exceptions can make use of it.

Little bit of formatting and indentation.

1787 6696 d 22 h decky / move kernel/trunk, uspace/trunk and boot/trunk to trunk/kernel, trunk/uspace and trunk/boot
1780 6703 d 23 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Replace old __u?? types with respective C99 variants (e.g. uint32_t, int64_t, uintptr_t etc.).
1702 6725 d 2 h cejka /kernel/trunk/ Kernel doxygen comments updated.
1468 6738 d 0 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Function for destroying address space for which there is no other reference in the kernel.
1428 6741 d 18 h palkovsky /kernel/trunk/generic/ Added 256K slab, so that AMD can boot (until ELF loader is fixed).
Added AS_AREA_RECV so that the caller can receive AS_AREA.

1425 6741 d 21 h jermar /kernel/trunk/generic/ Make address space backend data a union.
1424 6741 d 23 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Move the sharing functionality to address space area backends.
Add backend for continuous regions of physical memory.
Sharing for these areas works automagically now.

1423 6742 d 3 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Update page fault handlers to distinguish between different access modes that had caused the page fault.
1417 6743 d 19 h jermar /kernel/trunk/generic/ Modify as_area_share() to accept destination area flags bitmask from the sender
(i.e. the sender can limit access mode to the shared area for the recipient).
Modify IPC_M_AS_AREA_SEND code to support this. Arguments for sender: arg1=as_area,
arg2=size, arg3=flags_mask.

The mechanism seems to work, but the page fault handlers need to be altered to
distinguish between faults under different access modes.

1415 6744 d 7 h jermar /kernel/trunk/generic/ Some renaming to prevent confusion.
as_lock -> inactive_as_with_asid_lock
as_t::refcount -> as_t::cpu_refcount

1413 6744 d 18 h jermar /kernel/trunk/generic/ Reimplement memory sharing. Currently, only
anonymous address space areas can be shared.

1411 6744 d 23 h jermar /kernel/trunk/ Modify the hierarchy of page fault handlers to pass access mode that caused the fault.
Architectures are required to pass either PF_ACCESS_READ, PF_ACCESS_WRITE or PF_ACCESS_EXEC
to as_page_fault(), depending on the cause of the fault.

1409 6745 d 17 h jermar /kernel/trunk/generic/ Some shared memory stuff (not completed).
Support for address space area backends.
Add ELF and anonymous memory backends.

1387 6748 d 1 h jermar /kernel/trunk/generic/ Add used_space_insert() and used_space_remove().
These are the alpha versions of functions that
will help to map used and unused portions of address
space areas. Currently unused, but many as_area operations
will be more efficient when the used space B+tree map
is used.
