2314 6286 d 23 h decky /trunk/kernel/arch/ia32/include/ allow to compile with -O0
2310 6289 d 2 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Cleanup the waitq_wakeup() interface.
Replace numeric constants (i.e. 0)
and boolean constants (i.e. false) with
more readable WAKEUP_FIRST. Also change the
type of the second argument of waitq_wakeup()
to a newly introduced type wakeup_mode_t.

Fix behaviour of waitq_wakeup() in case
that WAKEUP_ALL semantics is required
but no threads are sleeping in the wait
queue. This is a similar fix to that of
Jan Hudecek committed in the RCU branch,
but, IMHO, is more straightforward and
also doesn't eat up previous missed
wakeups.

2302 6292 d 4 h decky /trunk/ force VGA palette to 3:2:3 palette on 8 bpp modes
(this fixes ticket #33)

2285 6301 d 10 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/src/proc/ Formatting and indentation fixes.
2275 6306 d 3 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ add fancy uptime kconsole command
2272 6307 d 3 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Indentation and formatting fixes.
2268 6308 d 2 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Document and assert proper usage of THREAD_FLAG_WIRED.
Original patch by Jan Hudecek.

2267 6309 d 2 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/src/mm/ Fix indentation.
2266 6309 d 2 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/src/mm/ Add few assertions to tsb.c and clean it up a little bit.
2252 6311 d 0 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/src/mm/ Move one MEMBAR instruction from a delay slot,
which is, due to SF Erratum #51, a potentionally
dangerous place for a MEMBAR to be.

2233 6317 d 0 h decky /trunk/kernel/arch/ use the hlt instruction more properly
2232 6317 d 1 h decky /trunk/kernel/arch/mips32/src/ add support for halt/reboot in MSIM
2231 6317 d 5 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/ Fix a nasty bug in the TLB miss handlers on sparc64.
After we no longer lock the kernel stack in the DTLB,
there is a real danger of nested DTLB misses. The nested
miss can very easily clobber the DTLB Tag Access register.
Therefore, the original miss may not read this register, but
it has to receive its value as an argument. The argument
value is saved in the trap table when it is guaranteed that
the nested TLB miss will not occur.

2229 6317 d 7 h jermar /trunk/ Revert some of the changes introduced in revision 2209.
I think it is not correct to remove serialization of pseudo threads in printf_core.c.
With thread-level futex serialization, several pseudo threads running in one thread could easily deadlock
the task.

Add a dedicated futex serialization to thread1.c test only.

2228 6317 d 8 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/src/ Fix ticket #28.
In switch_to_userspace(), the uarg argument is in %i2, not in %i3.

2227 6317 d 15 h decky /trunk/kernel/ start shutdown infrastructure
2225 6317 d 15 h decky /trunk/kernel/arch/mips32/ the bss and common sections have to be in .data output section to be properly generated in the binary image
(this might break IRIX, but it is already unmaintaned)

2224 6317 d 22 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/src/console/ detach joined thread
2223 6317 d 22 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/src/ add mcall0 command (calling a function on each CPU)
2222 6318 d 0 h decky /trunk/kernel/ map kernel pages explicitly as writable (this solves compatibility issues with Intel Core 2)
make VESA framebuffer initialization more robust

2221 6318 d 2 h decky /trunk/kernel/arch/ia32/src/boot/ fix typo in comment
2220 6318 d 2 h decky /trunk/kernel/arch/ia32/src/boot/ check for PSE support, add error message on PSE not present
make initial mapping explicitly writeable, turn PAE explicitly off (just in case)

2219 6318 d 3 h decky /trunk/kernel/arch/amd64/src/boot/ add error message on no long mode support
2218 6318 d 22 h decky /trunk/kernel/ support the possibility to send EOI or Interrupt Acknowledgement
prior to processing the interrupt
(this is essential on some architectures to prevent preemption deadlock)

2217 6318 d 23 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/ia32/src/smp/ On SMP amd64 and ia32 systems, release the irq->lock
before calling clock() from the interrupt handler.
This is important for maintaining kernel preemption
since no preemption can take place while a spinlock
is held.

2216 6319 d 1 h decky /trunk/ make thread ID 64 bit (task ID is 64 bit already)
cleanup thread syscalls

2211 6319 d 3 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/src/synch/ reflect the renaming of printflock to printf_lock
2210 6319 d 3 h decky /trunk/ use more useful values
2208 6319 d 3 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ use spinlock only on console output, not other print functions
cleanup

2188 6320 d 7 h decky /trunk/ new user space testing framework (unfinished)
2187 6320 d 8 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/ add syscall for getting current thread ID
2185 6320 d 9 h decky /trunk/ rename ipcc to tester
2184 6320 d 11 h decky /trunk/kernel/generic/src/lib/ add zetta (sextillion) prefix
make constants explicitly unsigned

2183 6321 d 5 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/ Continue to de-oversynchronize the kernel.
- replace as->refcount with an atomic counter; accesses to this
reference counter are not to be done when the as->lock mutex is held;
this gets us rid of mutex_lock_active();

Remove the possibility of a deadlock between TLB shootdown and asidlock.
- get rid of mutex_lock_active() on as->lock
- when locking the asidlock spinlock, always do it conditionally and with
preemption disabled; in the unsuccessful case, enable interrupts and try again
- there should be no deadlock between TLB shootdown and the as->lock mutexes
- PLEASE REVIEW !!!

Add DEADLOCK_PROBE's to places where we have spinlock_trylock() loops.

2170 6325 d 23 h jermar /trunk/kernel/ Simplify synchronization in as_switch().
The function was oversynchronized, which
was causing deadlocks on the address
space mutex.

Now, address spaces can only be switched
when the asidlock is held. This also protects
stealing of ASIDs. No other synchronization
is necessary.

2161 6328 d 2 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/src/mm/ Fix TSB bug during TSB refill.
When one wants to enable a TSB entry, he or she should set the
entry invalid bit to false, as opposed to setting it to true.

2144 6328 d 23 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/src/mm/ Fix TSB size.
2143 6329 d 6 h jermar /trunk/kernel/arch/sparc64/include/ Remove unneeded enum member.
2142 6329 d 6 h jermar /trunk/kernel/generic/include/mm/ Remove out of date comment.
2141 6329 d 22 h jermar /trunk/ The Ultimate Solution To Illegal Virtual Aliases.
It is better to avoid them completely than to fight them.
Switch the sparc64 port to 16K pages. The TLBs and TSBs
continue to operate with 8K pages only. Page tables and
other generic parts operate with 16K pages.

Because the MMU doesn't support 16K directly, each 16K
page is emulated by a pair of 8K pages. With 16K pages,
illegal aliases cannot be created in 16K D-cache.
